Construction Progress Update #7

Progress is exciting as the exteriors of the bures begin to look finished, and work starts on the insides of the rooms and the Salty Fox.  The pool is beginning to really take shape.  Thanks again to Karen Robertson for all of the great pictures.

Once we removed the lava flow, the crew began forming up the rebar and iron for the walls.  Notice how nice and close the pool is to the resturant?

The construction of the pool has progressed nicely.  In this earlier picture you can see the forms in place.

The front edge (towards the sea) is an infinity edge.  What a nice place to watch the sunset!

Floors have been poured inside the Salty Fox, and the concrete block is being set for the bar and interior walls.

Someone has been having too much fun placing bits of coral and shells in the aggregate finish of the bures.

Needless to say, the aggregate finish is beginning to look really sharp.

The view is looking pretty nice from the sleeping area of the bures.  The short wall show separates the bedroom from the lounge. You can also see how the framing is taking shape at the front of the bure.

Now for something a little different.  How about a boat trip around the island of Taveuni?

That she blows!  I think this is the Vuna blowhole.  Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The remaining two pictures are neat views of some of the secret waterfalls on the eastern side of Taveuni.

The first yacht makes a visit!

A major element of the Taveuni Dive Resort development is making a sound mooring for visiting yachts.  Several local folks were involved with the installation of two large mooring points off the Taveuni Estates Marina.  This will help encourage visiting yachts to use the Estates and our resort as a gateway to Taveuni.  Below are some pictures of the first yacht to use the new moorings, and of course they went to dive the Great White Wall with Taveuni Dive.

Construction Progress Update #1

We've shown you a few pictures on Facebook that Karen took, and I thought it might be fun to talk about them.  I really appreciate her help, and it helps she is a pretty fine photographer.

First,  we had to have Shah Construction bring in their heavy equipment from Savusavu on Vanua Levu.  Naturally the ferry was too expensive, so they brought goodies over on an inter- island freighter.  Below are a few cool pictures of the endeavor.  We've heard from a few friends at Aroha Taveuni that they started work pretty darn early/late (sorry!)

In the foreground is Shah Construction's cement mixer.  It will be very busy over the next few months.

Already to go!

It's official now!  Resorts and Peaches is on the way.  I've asked mom if the signature drink should be a fuzzy navel.  For those new to the business, the actual company name is Resorts and Beaches.

Here you can see the construction crew laying out the foundations for the Salty Fox and the pool.  Check out the fresh sand that was quarried elsewhere on Taveuni.  They will also quarry aggregate on the Taveuni as well.  All this locally sourced material helps with our sustainability goals.

Here the guys are beginning to layout the foundation for Bure #2.  We've adjusted some of the locations for the bures to maximize the views and privacy for our guests.  It is cool to think how fast the grass will grow back after the work is completed.

Calling All Dive Groups!

Folks,  we have some great news!  For 12 years Carl and Muriel have run Taveuni Dive, the most reliable and experienced dive operator on Taveuni. To better accommodate the dive groups wanting to visit, we've decided to open our own dive resort.  The Taveuni Dive Resort will have eight very special bures, so it can easily accommodate the typical dive group of 16 people.  The resort will be Taveuni's first sustainable resort.

We're starting construction in March 2014, so we will be open in the fall of 2014.  Thanks for all of your support, and keep visiting for additional news.
